Designer Lighting Company explores the similarity between art and light. We see echoes of modern art and design in the trends of lighting designs. What makes some designs valuable and visually appealing?
If beauty is in the eye of the beholder; would you pay $91.1 million for a quirky piece of art?
American pop artist Jeff Koons’ “Rabbit” sculpture is at the forefront of art and design and it’s one of the hottest sculptures in the art world right now (2020). Having just scooped a sale at a Christie’s auction for a cool $91.1 million. Breaking the record for the most expensive piece of modern art ever sold by a living artist.
It’s highly original, a work that engages the viewer with clever and unusual choices of subject, teamed with polished, shiny materials.
Surrender To Surrealism
Surrealism is a trend we see cropping up more and more, a material usually so lightweight made of steel is a juxtaposition of our expectations. Koons’ balloon dog sculpture is reminiscent of our balloon dog table lamps. Available in brilliant chrome, black or gold shiny finishes.
These unusually designed lamps will add a hyper-contemporary, trendy and artistic statement to homes or hospitality venues, but at a fraction of the cost -and a manageable size of course!
They have an immaculate shine and reflective quality, particularly true for the chrome finish.
Pictured here a pair of gold and black balloon dog lamps.
They are sure to help create a dialogue and remind us of childhood days, something we can all identify with. This can help make this light memorable, to spark joy and curiosity in a time where something previously would have been considered odd is embraced.
The sky’s the limit! Oh, what a time to be alive!
A Visual Dialogue
Ideal for maximalist homes, or any home with a personality, or ideal for hospitality venue lighting as your guests are sure to remember these unusual lamps as they are immersive, inviting the viewer in. A talking point and an element of surprise teamed with functionality.
These come complete with a white fabric shade which will fit in with a variety of existing interiors with ease. Don’t think you have to have a whole dog themed interior scheme or that they will only fit in with a solely contemporary room!
That’s what surrealism is all about, they could fit in with historical interiors too, a mix and match of eras besides each other is interesting. It will create a curious juxtaposition which makes spaces alive, thought-provoking and enjoyable to be in.
They too are faceless and super shiny, much like Koon’s art. The switch is integrated into the design on the tail. Adding artful fascination to your space, whilst helping to create a balanced ambient lighting scheme every room needs.
Similarly, our newest favourite statement ceiling pendants, the Beads Octo is made from spun stainless steel globes and finished in a variety of high shine metallics.
Indulge in Imagination
Much like art and architecture, lighting designs are like frozen ideas and conceptions. Imagination realised and brought into fruition.
This Exemplar chandelier harkens back to the modern art we talked about earlier.
The cluster of spheres has a high shine, reflective finish. A mirror like quality. Inviting the viewer into it and reflecting other light sources in the room fantastically. This light always looks architecturally different, depending on your perspective or angle it’s viewed from, so you will never get bored of this pendant in your home.
It is your chance to get a piece of contemporary copper lighting. To own a piece of art and design super stylised lighting, without breaking the bank. A warm glow entices the viewer into perfect orbs.
Contemporary Chrome
For an ultra-contemporary look then a chrome finish is for you. Immerse yourself into a bubbly cloud of boundless reflections.
Boundless Reflections
Or do you prefer a slightly darker metal? Like gunmetal? We love the way in darkness there is a light pattern cast onto walls like reflections on water.
Boule pendant spotlight for ceilings has a simple, spherical, smooth form. A polished chrome finish gives off an attractive shine and reflective mirror like quality. A downward beam of light is perfect for over table lighting or they can be clustered for a statement lighting look.
The Boule as pictured here is available from Designer Lighting Company in white, chrome, black or copper.
We hope this has inspired to add some art and light into your home or venue.
Live the benefits that great lighting can bring to your life everyday!
