Barely There Colour

An alluring almost-there hint of rainbow colours through translucent glass. A hallucination of colour that feels dreamlike. We envisage this material trend being used in hotel foyers and social spaces to separate zones without placing hard barriers to sharing socialness. Due to the transparency of the material, lighting is an obvious choice, providing enough clarity for light to omit from within, yet the delicate colours are enlivened and intensified by the light passing through. Furthermore, the non-solid colours are hypnotic and will not dominate a room, which is especially useful in large glass spaces.

Originality

Although we are talking about trends, the move towards being your own style guru is gaining momentum. No longer do we want to follow the tribe. In the world of Social Media, there’s so much of the same-old-style repeated, so that everything unusual or original stands like a shining beacon amidst a sea of mediocre. Where’s the line between original creativity and unadulterated bonkers? The answer – who cares?! The whole thing about ‘originality’ is being brave and trusting in your judgement. At Designer Lighting Company that is something we can get behind, as our lighting range features highly creative and original designs, keeping apace with the world leading design houses, who are constantly creative, consistently challenging the norm.

Wabi Sabi

The Japanese phrase meaning imperfection taken to an art form; ‘perfectly imperfect’ with flawed beauty. This may be the fragility of transient objects, the patina, the age worn, the cracked or uneven. The less than perfect finishes taken to an art form; this is Wabi Sabi. Interpret this as touched by humans, handmade, handcrafted, the imprecise. It’s the complete opposite to precise machine-made products. Its hand thrown clay rather than moulded, it’s mouth blown glass rather than pressed. Faded beauty is still beauty, it’s an appreciation of life, or a life lived. Leonard Cohen (songwriter) wrote; “There is a crack, a crack in everything, that’s how the light gets in”
Cohen wrote dark songs; the above quote was from a song entitled ‘Anthem’ and the line was immediately preceded with “forget your perfect offerings”. Perfect is not always perfect, there’s some light and beauty can be born from damaged goods. Without getting dark, let’s look at where the light gets in.

Minerals

Marble and Minerals have been edging into our interior spaces over recent years and there are no signs of this stopping, in fact far from it! The trend is gaining speed like a stone rolling down a hill! There are so many pendant lights available in marble and faux marble as a consumer you can be super fastidious and our designer brands do offer the point of difference; it’s still worth investing in a marble light fitting. Here are a few of the designs that are elevated from the mass market.

Jewels

Much in the way you’d add a pair of drop earrings to finish the outfit, lighting is fast becoming seen as the jewellery for the home. Pendant lights in tinted jewel colours, coloured glass and gold adorn our ceilings, which incidentally are getting the wallpaper treatment this year in all the forecasts. Ceilings will become the new feature walls. Lighting needs to be plentiful when ceiling are coloured or dark. Colour absorbs light, to this end we predict multiple groups of pendant lights and multi armed chandelier style lights will take over from a single pendant light in a room that adopts darker colours. Be on the lookout for jewel coloured table lamps such as the latest additions to our Ebb & Flow range.

Mixed Metallic

Gold, Silver and Bronze things get a little shake up with two tone metallics. Browse the entire range of metallic lights at Designer Lighting Company, you’ll be impressed I’m sure, there’s indoor and outdoor lights galore.

Colour Rich

In direct contrast to the ‘Barely There’ trend, the colour rich focuses on heavily saturated colours. The deepest blues will have you all at sea; oceans apart from the pale blue we’ll see inky black blues, deep greens and greys that’s nearly black and black that has an endless deep rich depth. The heavily coloured dense paints will not only be on walls but also on painted pendants which can exactly match with your walls. Inch thick, dense colour teamed with nautical gold or copper accenting gives a navel smart interior. Yes nautical, a little bit like industrial but a touch smarter don’t you agree?

70’s Glamour

Picture the scene of James Bond sipping a martini; shaken and not stirred in a Bond villains’ 70’s pad. It’s surprising when looking at the old films to see that there’s a modernity that still resonates today. The 70’s glamour takes an essence of the James Bond interior style but elevates it way beyond. Trumpeting in the new look, expect to see cone shapes retro styled lights with gold bands, luxuriating with gold interior reflectors and shades, large feature table lamps banded with gold. Midcentury modern furniture and standard lamps with added fringe details. Bold and theatrical multi head lights. The above image shows just one example of the David Hunt Lighting range available to buy at Designer Lighting Company simply stunning!

Wood and Rope

Macramé noted rope lighting, tactile materials bold rich colours. Braided, woven, manmade – almost crude, the unrefined realism of crafted objects. Collected themes and curated vignettes of shells washed wood and salvaged rugs teamed with plants, embroidered or tasseled lampshades all held together with bright bold wall coverings. Prefer contemporary wooden lighting? You can still use wood, opt for lighting in pale wood tones to keep a fresh smart look.

Simply Styled

Simplicity of design, plain, simple and functional. Groups of similar shapes, similarity of materials, singular colours in dark and light, colour density. Commonality, repetition, and uniformity. Concrete, painted metals and pale wood are elements to include.
