Light is literally everything. We are hard wired respond to light and darkness through our circadian rhythms, lighting very much affects how we feel, our mood and emotions. It affects how alert, energised or relaxed we are. Light can prepare us for work, excite or inspire us. Bright light will suppress the secretion of melatonin in the brain and stop us from feeling sleepy, hence why bright lighting is perfect for working on tasks.
Ambient lighting is ideal for transforming the mood of your home which leaves us feeling relaxed, serene and fosters warm relations. Lighting provides the perfect backdrop to share togetherness with friends, family and guests. Not only this but a feature light transforms a room instantly with just one, cleverly placed piece.

The right light helps elevate our happiness and joy, just like on a lovely summers day or watching the sunset at dusk, when everything just feels right, objects and environments look ethereal and more beautiful. We’re sure you’ll love the stylish designer lighting of Scandinavia, to help you feel a sense of kinship and and relaxation, providing the glow for shared, meaningful moments at home.
Although a country with lots of darkness, the Danes are a rated as one of the happiest in the world. But why? What exactly is it that makes the Danes so happy?
Lighting a room with warm, cosy ambience is integral to the Danish philosophy, or way of life, “Hygge”, which is very important to the Danes culturally, creating a sense of togetherness and the sharing of precious moments with loved ones in beautifully lit spaces. The Gaelic word for this feeling is “còsagach”, those snug and cosy moments the colder weather brings. The Dark and long days inspire lovely lighting dispersed across a room with soothing shadows.

Coming back from a walk in a forest on a cold and wet day and changing into some wool socks, whilst sipping hot chocolate and reading a book under a fur blanket. How do you find moments of hygge in your home?
Have you ever walked into a home or checked into a hotel room and breathed a sigh of relief? A feeling of instant relaxation, serenity and calm? A cool sophistication which inspires you instantly.
Since a trip to Copenhagen in 2016 I have a slight obsession with Danish interiors and designer lighting and I’m not the only one! Scandinavian and Danish design is one of the most influential and iconic styles in the world, where elegant simplicity meets functionality.
The iconic egg chair design was pioneered by Arne Jacobson for a hotel in Copenhagen, collections can be seen in Copenhagen’s design museum alongside ceramics, industrial designs, decorative arts and sometimes features temporary exhibitions, so keep your eyes peeled! Design is visible not only in museums but bursting in the streets of Copenhagen, where art and design is certainly part of the tapestry of everyday life.
Why not take a trip yourself? The cafe’s and bars gleam with a simple luxury, you could try out some local specialities like Smørrebrød.
If cycling is your thing you will love it, Copenhagen is a cyclists dream, you can take a bike ride around the city. Why not visit the dome of visions and sip a gin and tonic from their bar? Which is like a glass beehive filled with lush green plants, warm inside even when it’s cold out due to the clever design which traps heat from sunlight.
It is easy to be inspired in here, who knows what ideas you’ll come up with yourself in this space? It certainly challenges perceptions and glimpses to the future design and architecture. How does your home enhance your everyday?
The Danes can remind us that it’s in fact the little moments that make us happy and content, the subtle comforts, finding joy in embracing the most of everyday of pleasures. In our busy and increasingly frantic world, a feeling of togetherness in our homes with friends and family is something we all cherish. How can we help create this feeling in our home?
